Knowledge Management across the Enterprise

I work on an Operations Team for a retail establishment and one of my main projects is to develop an Enterprise Wide Knowledge Management Plan. We currently use SharePoint today as our main Content Management System and there are pro’s and con’s to that. On top of that, we are building an AI Knowledge Assistant that will help search through our SharePoint system for answers to associate questions.

I’m seeking some advice on how your internal organization handle content management. For anyone who has a dedicated Knowledge Management Team to better understand what the scope of responsibility is. Who owns the creation and maintenance of the content itself. How does it stay current. Who owns the design and layout of your Knowledge Management Site? For both of these areas who ensures specific guardrails or Center of Excellence is followed.

Would love to hear some best practices and advice from anyone.
