It’s really hard for me to see the thin line of the default cursor so I want to make the caret more visible i.e. wider. I can’t seem to find a way to do this. I don’t want to change the color, just the width of the cursor.
The only way to style the caret/cursor beyond changing the color is with a plugin. Using the Ninja cursor plugin, along with some CSS to disable the animation effects and widen the cursor, might be what you are looking for.
