iPhone cannot detect existing iCloud vault although Mac and Files app can

Hi,

I’m having a problem with Obsidian on iPhone.

Environment

  • iPhone: iOS 18.6.2
  • Mac: Obsidian 1.12.7

My vault structure is:

~/Library/Mobile Documents/iCloud~md~obsidian/Documents/

Inside that folder I have:

Obsidian/
.obsidian
test_root.md
循環器内科/
.obsidian
many .md files
循環器内科2/
.obsidian
many .md files
循環器内科NEW/
.obsidian
many .md files
Welcome.md

The Mac opens the vault normally.

The iPhone Files app can also see every folder and every note.

However, inside Obsidian on iPhone:

Use my existing vault
→ iCloud
→ “Your iCloud vault was not detected”

There is only a Back button.

Things I already tried:

  • Reinstall Obsidian
  • Restart iPhone
  • Disable and re-enable iCloud Drive sync
  • Delete and recreate vault registration
  • Create a new vault
  • Confirm that the vault contains a valid .obsidian folder
  • Confirm that Files app can access the vault

Nothing worked.

Could you please tell me how to make Obsidian iOS detect this existing iCloud vault?

Thank you.

iCloud vaults need to be in a particular location to work on iOS. “iOS and iPadOS folder location”

You may need to create an iCloud vault on iOS first and then move your files into it.
