Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a blank vault.
  2. Place within it a PDF
  3. Try to scroll the PDF using an external mouse or the Magic Keyboard touchpad

Bonus

  1. Make a markdown note and embed the PDF within it
  2. Try to scroll the embedded PDF using an external mouse or the Magic Keyboard touchpad

Expected result

It should be possible to scroll the PDF like any other file, or like in any other app.

Actual result

Unable to scroll PDF either directly or as an embed. Able to scroll note with embedded PDF, just not the PDF itself.

I donā€™t know if itā€™s related in any way, but enabling the plugin ā€œPDF++ā€ breaks scrolling in every note, not just PDFs.

I have never installed PDF++ so I donā€™t know why I canā€™t scroll. For me, it has nothing to do with that plugin. In fact, a default vault (without any plugins) does it as well.

Yes, sorry if I didnā€™t make this clear - this bug has nothing to do with PDF++, itā€™s just that thereā€™s a similar bug in PDF++ that might be related somehow.

This particular bug is about how PDFs cannot be scrolled, not markdown notes in general.

Ah I could have been more clear as well. For me, both PDFs and Notes do not scroll with the smart keyboard. iPadOS 18 Beta, latest Obsidian.

If you use the Magic Keyboardā€™s trackpad to mouse over the icon in the dock it doesnā€™t do the pop-out thing icons normally do. Apple Pencil hover also isnā€™t supported. Maybe thereā€™s something more generally not working with mouse support?

With magic keyboard on iPadOS:

  • Cannot scroll down with up and down arrows
  • Cannot scroll down with keyboard touchpad
  • Can navigate pages back and forth with left and right arrows

Just to clarify, what lwzbr pointed out was a bug of PDF++, and it has been already fixed in PDF++ v0.40.11. And importantly, it was a completely separate problem from the bug of Obsidian discussed here.

In other words, PDF++ has nothing to do with this bug.

Still reproducable. This makes pdfs unusable when using an external keyboard/mouse. Should be a pretty high priority bug fix. Also the fact that theres so much dead space when using an external keyboard in notes,

Yes, I still have the issue as well. PDF++ isnā€™t installed. It happens even when I try a brand new vault. I cancelled my Sync plan (as I was paying monthly) and went back to DEVONThink.

Bug is still present in v1.7.7

Actual behavior

  • Mouse scrolling doesnā€™t work. No response when using the mouse wheel
  • Touch scrolling works perfectly
  • The issue is consistent across all display (iPad and external)

If the cursor is above the pdf and I do āŒ˜ + āŒ„ + ā‡§ + UP or DOWN. The PDF scrolls

Is there feedback from Obsidian team on when this issue will be addressed?

Iā€™m unable to use a trackpad/mouse to scroll through a note. However, it does work on file explorer and menus.

Combined with the display bug with the keyboard bar this is making obsidian completely unusable with an external display which is honestly incredibly frustrating.
