iPad app reliably crashing after writing a few paragraphs

Steps to reproduce

Open a new note on the iPad and type for a while, 3000 characters or so.

Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? [Y]

Attempted with no plugins, no snippets, default theme; same results.

Expected result

The letters I type to appear on the screen in the order I typed them, and the app not to crash.

Actual result

After 3000 characters or so, it will start to behave oddly, with delayed response from the keyboard, characters appearing after other characters typed later, and before long the app will crash and reload. Then if you continue typing, this will happen again after a few paragraphs. It gives the impression of running out of memory.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Custom theme and snippets: for cosmetic issues, please first try updating your theme and disabling your snippets. If still not fixed, please try to make the issue happen in the Sandbox Vault or disable community theme and snippets.

Device: iPad Pro 10.5"

I don’t know what it’s talking about with “Snippets enabled: 1.”

I have wiped and restored the iPad and updated to iPadOS 17.2, and the problem seems to be much worse; Obsidian will relaunch after every few sentences. It is essentially unusable for writing at this point.

Edit: I don’t think it’s worse. It’s just about the size of the current Note.

Does the crash happen in restricted mode and default theme, restart obsidian?

Does it crash while editing any file or is it one note specifically?

I don’t know how to determine that on mobile. But surely not that many; hundreds, not thousands.

Yes.

Any file with more than about 3K characters in it.

No.

All but Publish, Random Note, Slash Commands, Slides, Sync, Unique Note Creator, and Workspaces.

So, are you using iCloud to sync your vault with your desktop?

If you disable Backlinks plugin, does it still crash?

If you disable Outgoing links plugin, does it still crash?

What’s more, it didn’t crash after I re-enabled both plugins!
