iOS/Dropbox sync options for new user

Brand-new Obsidian user, kicking the tires after 12 yrs on Evernote. About half my life is now on Coda.io so Obsidan << >> Coda integration options will be crucial for me, which I suspect looks like using Make.com or a Coda Pack to setup some flows that sync selected notes Obsidian >> Coda and Coda >> Obsidian.

That means I’ll need to keep my Obsidian vault in Dropbox…BUT I also the option to capture and access all my notes via iOS (iPad and iPhone). I see that Dropbox and Obsidian Sync conflict, so I’m wondering what options folks recommend here:

  1. Some other way of thinking about Coda << >> Obsidian? But I just can’t imagine keeping my notes in a form I can’t leverage via Make/Zapier because I have a few longtime workflows with Evernote that involve moving things in/out that way. I see @nengelmann is thinking about this too.
  2. Some other approach to syncing Obsidian iOS << > MacOS? I found @mo-seph’s helpful post on using Unison but I’m new to Unison so a little concerned about creating dependencies that might break later. Could I use a symlink to sync Obsidian vault to iCloud and Dropbox? That seems like a terrifying recipe for Very Bad Things happening.

Thanks in advance for suggestions!

And I’m very happy to pay for Obsidian Sync, if that will solve the problem…but the official documentation says that conflicts with Dropbox.

Also wondering if the solution might involve using Obsidian URI + Hook as my Coda/Obsidian workflow option, but I haven’t dug around enough to figure out if that can sync full text or just a link.

I use Obsidian in Windows, iOS, and Ubuntu. I use a plugin named “Remotely Save” that allows syncing with several cloud providers, Dropbox among them. I do not have experience using Coda, but I just wanted to say that you can sync through Dropbox on several platforms without problems. (Don’t forget to backup!)

Why do you want to use Obsidian in the first place? Your current workflow is highly dependent on Dropbox and Obsidian provides only partial support to it via community plugins, in particular Remotely Save. It seems Obsidian isn’t designed for your use case in mind (unless Remotely Save perfectly fulfils your expectations which I think is unlikely).
