Use case or problem
In my note-taking workflow, I often need to organize and manage multiple versions of content, such as drafts, updates, or alternative ideas. Currently, Obsidian lacks a feature similar to Roam Research’s “versions,” which allows users to hide child notes horizontally and link or highlight contradictory or similar opinions and frameworks. This functionality would greatly enhance my ability to structure notes more efficiently and aesthetically.
Proposed solution
Implement a “versions” feature in Obsidian that allows users to:
- Hide child notes horizontally instead of vertically, providing a cleaner and more organized view.
- Highlight or link to opposing and matching opinions, philosophies, or frameworks.
- Separate notes into distinct sections or “chapters.”
- Use alias links within each version to create concise footnotes.
This would enable users to manage and navigate different iterations of their notes more effectively, making it easier to track changes and organize information in a streamlined manner.
Current workaround (optional)
Currently, I manually create separate notes or use nested folders to manage different versions. However, this approach is less efficient and can become cluttered, making it harder to maintain a clear overview of related content.
