Internal links not updating after renaming files on iPad (no sync, no plugins)

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a new note called Note A.
  2. In another note, add a link to it: [[Note A]].
  3. (Next day or few) Rename Note A by tapping its title at the top of the editor and entering a new name (e.g., Note Renamed).
  4. Return to the note with the link.

Expected result

When I rename a note from within the app (editor title bar), all existing internal links pointing to that note should be updated immediately and consistentl.

Actual result

Additional information

  • I rename notes by tapping the file name at the top of the editor.
  • I do not rename from outside Obsidian (no Files app or other tools).
  • My vault is stored only locally on the iPad (no iCloud, no Obsidian Sync).
  • I have no plugins installed.
  • I have “Automatically update internal links” turned on in settings.

I have tried:
• Toggling “Automatically update internal links” off and on again.
• Closing and restarting the app fully.
• Making new test notes and links.
• Ensuring that file renaming happens inside Obsidian, not from outside.

I can’t see a way to edit my report, so I’ll add here that this issue occurs about 8 times out of 10. After opening Obsidian and renaming the first note, the link updates correctly. However, renaming a second, third, or later note during the same session usually does not update the links.

When you get a chance, I would try creating a new local test vault, filling it with a pile of notes (you can use the iPadOS Files app to copy or paste them in), and try in there.

I experienced this a few times over the course of maybe a week or two sometime in the past few months. I had the impression that Obsidian’s indexing stuff had stopped working at those times. I think restarting the app fixed it in the moment. I may have cured it by restarting the device, or it may have cleared up on its own.

Can you attach here the note that contains the link to [[note A]]
