I would like to in my template include not only the hour of the day (XX:XX) but also the timezone (EST, PST, etc).
I am aware that with hh:mm A G\MTZ I can output something like 0:4:00PM GMT-5:00, but I’d prefer instead of GMT-5:00 that it would say EST. Is this possible natively or do I have to use something like Templater? If so, how would I achieve that within Templater?
These are the tokens that you can use with Templates core plugin. As explained z or zz is not available anymore. In JavaScript and using Moment.js you can get timezone using this code:
var tz = moment.tz.guess();

Time Zone
z or zz
EST CST … MST PST Note: as of 1.6.0, the z/zz format tokens have been deprecated from plain moment objects. Read more about it here. However, they do work if you are using a specific time zone with the moment-timezone addon.
