In Windows 11: Associate file extension .md to Obsidian - strange behaviour

Hello all,

coming with a noobie question…

What I’m trying to do

In Windows 11 I associated the file extension .md to Obsidian, so doubleclicking a md file should open it in Obsidian.
Instead a dialog is popping up to deinstall Obsidian.

Has anyone seen something like that? What can I do?

I searched the forum but didn’t find anything related.

Thanks for any hint!

The installation dialog isn’t the response I’d expect, but Obsidian can’t open files that way. It won’t respond to file open commands from the file manager or other apps (unless they use an Obsidian URI - Obsidian Help).

Thank you Cawlin for your quick reply. I understand.
Best regards
