When I was using Obsidian notes, I noticed one strange problem. I can’t add anything when setting up keyboard shortcuts. that is, I press +, the “press keyboard shortcut” lights up, I press any key except esc - but nothing happens, the key is not assigned in any way. I reinstalled obsidian and restarted the PC, it didn’t help.
Just making sure: Are you pressing a valid shortcut combination?
It has to have one or more modifier key along with one alphanumeric or symbol key.
A single key won’t work. Neither will a combo of all modifiers (Alt, Shift, etc.).
Try Ctrl and Q, for example.
But if even that doesn’t work, then try in a sandbox vault: Sandbox vault - Obsidian Help. (If you’re using an external keyboard while on mobile, there’s no sandbox. Instead of using the sandbox, you could create a new vault to test.)
And if it’s still no-go in the sandbox / new vault, then can you say your operating system, Obsidian version, and Obsidian installation version?
I have a small suggestion for the UI: it would be very helpful to add a tiny hint or tooltip in the hotkey setting area, stating that modifiers (Ctrl, Alt, Shift) are required.
As a regular user, when nothing happened after pressing a single key (like a letter + letter or a NumPad key), I immediately thought it was a bug or a hardware issue. A simple ‘Please use a combination’ message would save a lot of confusion for beginners!
Thanks again for the help! <3
