I just wanted to put this out there if anyone else was confused about the two different timelapse animations like I was.
When the graph timelapse feature first came out, I saw two versions of animations:

I could not figure out how to make my animation look like it was “growing” until @AustinGovella on the Discord server realized that these two different versions of animations are dependent on whether you have “Orphans” on or off.
Your animation will look like the first gif if orphans are on off:
