How to make notes for exam prep?

The most challenging part of my exam prep is to go through all past paper questions and other guideline pdf documents to get high yield topics — which frequently asked in the exams.

When I’m preparing a topic, I also look back at past papers to check what questions have been asked from it and find answer of that question from a relevant source, which involves a lot of back-and-forth.

My goal is to create notes that:

  • Lists high-yield topics in a note
  • Links each topic to relevant past paper questions.

This way, by the end, I’ll have a clear overview of which topics are most important and the specific questions associated with them.

How would you approach this?

I keep a separate note called “!key-notes” for each subject where I either embed, link, or rephrase important points.

I also make use the Obsidian Spaced Repetition plugin where important notes/points and questions I struggled with are reviewable under different tags.

I just separate the questions based on subject, but you can also further subdivide them based on the importance.

For example, the tag #fc is set to identify notes that have flashcards and it will detect nested tags as well. So you can use #fc/Subject1/Questions for all questions and #fc/Subject1/Questions/Important for the important ones.
