What I’m trying to do
Decide if 1GB Obsidian Sync plan is feasible
Things I have tried
I signed up for the Obsidian Sync now starts at $4 per month with the new Standard plan - Obsidian 1GB Sync plan because I cannot afford the Plus. I’m only planning to use markdown notes, but I’m not even sure how long I can stay under this limit.
The first thing I did is turned off sync selection of the other formats like images, audio, pdf, to save space. So far I have only created a single note with byte count of 2,033, but says it’s already using 1.2MB. I assume that includes syncing settings. I disabled syncing downloaded themes, as I am only using the default. Is there anything else I should be disabling?
The only community plugin I am using is Export to HTML, but I don’t want that synced, since I am only using it on the desktop, and the mobile is only for writing fleeting notes.
As far as how large a files I will be syncing, maybe 150, but they will be either short recipes and short form blogs.
Before anyone asks: I tried Remotely Save to Koofr, Dropbox limits the devices to 3. Obsidian Sync just works, I just wish it was a little more affordable when one considers I have Koofr 35GB for 11€ a year. and Standard Sync is €46,36 EUR = $68,64 CAD.
Can someone let me know if it has been your experience in keeping your storage below this 1GB limit? How large your notes have become with plugins, etc?
My vault is 495MB on disk, and that is mostly from 449MB of images. I have all checkboxes checked for what to sync.
After about 17 months of usage, Sync is saying my remote vault is 563.37MB.
I’ve seen one thread on the forum where someone’s vault seemed to grow out of control. I can’t find the thread, but I suspect it was something to do with mixing cloud tools.
But in general, you should not continue to see a linear extrapolation of what you’ve already seen. The size should level out. If you want to test that assumption, just add a few large test notes to increase the size, before your refund grace period expires.
Right now you have 2033 bytes = 1.2MB. That’s a factor of 618 or so? If you have 1.2MB and end up with 741.6MB of Sync data… something is definitely wrong and you should contact support.
Short answer: You should be fine for a while. And you should be able to turn most things back on. But you don’t need to. (But do make sure you aren’t mixing cloud sync tools together, which could duplicate files.)

That tells me I will be fine.
I will just turn on the community plugin.
Thanks for a great response. I would consider that a solution.

I agree with what @rigmarole replied. I’ve been a serious user for more than half a year, and I’m on about 1/4 of those 1 GB. I have 30-something plugins, a lot of photos, and PDFs inside a vault that I sync.
As I’m using Obsidian (also!) as the project “management” and as a learning tool, I know that when I’m done with tasks, I’ll move things out of Obsidian. So I’m sure that 1 GB will be enough for “ever.”
The only limitation I have seen once or twice is the number of vaults. No, I don’t need 10 of them, but I would love to be able to sync one or two more—and still be in that 1 GB!
Happy syncing and cheers, Marko

And I am thinking I may have overdone it with Export to HTML
There does seems to be a big leap between the plans. I wouldn’t mind having 3 vaults like Koofr does, but I could never use 10.
Maybe a mid-tier plan could help users decide (that can’t use or justify the Plus plan). I would look for alternatives before upgrading to a 10GB Sync plan.
I do appreciate the reassurance from you and @rigmarole

Agreed, or even just 2. 10 is a very big leap.
