How to change menu bar items to buttons?

Hello -
I am new to the forum. I would like to change the full size menus Files, Search and Starred to be more like tabbed buttons.

Here is my current menus appearance

Here is what I am trying to accomplish

How can I make this change? Is it a config setting or plugin or some other mod?
