How do plugin updates work for a closed-source plugin?

Hello, some time ago, I posted a question here on how I could have a closed-source plugin, and the way was to give access to one of the obsidian team members for check.

This time, I want to ask on how updates work for plugins. I checked the post here which seems to imply creating new github releases updates the plugin, but I wanted to ask if this was the case, and if it also was the case for closed-source plugins.
