Hide properties and use a popup editor on mouse hover

I use a number of plugins that require front matter entries. The list of them is getting quite long and takes up a lot of screen space when i open a note.

it would be good if the properties list could be auto hidden so that you only see it when you hover over some button or line. I haven’t seen anything like this in the archives.

There are similar features to auto hide other things, so it seems possible to do this as well.

Would this do the job?

If you hover over Properties you seen an arrow.

In preferences → Editor → Properties in document, you can set it to hidden. And then you can still always access it from Properties view: Show file properties, which opens in a separate sidebar pane.

Did you mean to hide, or to auto-fold?

Marko, the topic is about “auto” though.

Also, another workaround is to map a hotkey to Toggle fold properties in current file, which at least speeds up hiding it a tiny bit.

When I have a lot of properties, I fold them (hide), and they stay folded even after restarting Obsidian. Then I use a hotkey to …

… but yes, It’s not auto

I think this FR may be a duplicate of

Hmm, never noticed that, thanks. Is this only on a per note basis? I do have to click again on that arrow to show them again. What i was looking for was a way to show them when hovering without clicking them on or off.

Of the three options in that properties setting, none give me the arrow with the hidden properties then shown when i want them to. The only workble option is to click the arrow to hide them when the note loads and then click again to unhide them. This has to be done for every note. A better version would be a fourth option to hide by default but with that arrow present so you can open the properties when you want to see them.

No, my request is for a slightly different thing. In any case this other feature request has not been implemented.

It seems you are really asking for this.

as i said already, i’m looking for a hover equivalent of this that doesn’t require a hotkey or a mouse click.

ok, I renamed this thread for clarity
