Help moving to Obsidian Sync

I’m sure this has been covered but I can’t find N answer to my difficulty

What I’m trying to do

I have synced via iCloud for years but it was getting slower and slower — so I took out the sub for Obsidian Sync.

Things I have tried

It warned me that iCloud was attempting to sync in parallel — and start up was still slow.

I moved my vault from iCloud to another cloud, the Microsoft one

Now I cannot access anything and it will not allow me to connect to the new vault position as a ‘remote vault’

Where have I gone wrong and how can I make it right again?

I don’t use Obsidian Sync, but I think for it to work, the vault you want to sync needs to be local, out of any other “cloud” service reach (to avoid syncing issues)
