Help. I cannot Open Notes after Upgrading to 1.9

I upgraded to version 1.9 yesterday and played around with Bases.

Everthing seemed find until I hit Command - O to open the Quick Switcher. Only 2 notes appear in the Quick Switcher menu despite all notes still visable in my vault.

I use the Quick Switcher hundreds of times a day so this is an urgent problem.

I have started and restarted Obsidian. I have also rebuilt the Vault Cache. Anyone else experiencing this problem? Any suggestions?

Moved to help.

Sorry about that. I’m a newbie in this forum. I did all of the steps in the Troubleshooting guide. See below and thank you.

Steps to reproduce

  1. I open the command pallet and initiate the “Quick Switcher”
  2. The Quick Switcher menu appears and present only the last 3 notes I have opened.
  3. None of the other notes in my vault appear in the Quick Switcher menu.

Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? [Y/N]

Yes

Expected result

Expected to see all of the notes in my vault (many hundred) in the Quick Switcher menu .

Actual result

I am only presented with the last few notes I have opened.

Additional information

This result has never happened before yesterday update.

Is your vault synced by a cloud service, or located in Documents or the Desktop which may be controlled by iCloud or OneDrive? If so, maybe the setting that tells the sync service to keep files downloaded got unset. An Obsidian update wouldn’t do that, but maybe your operating system updated around the same time.

One way to check this (besides looking at the setting) is to go outside of Obsidian and open the file there, then go back to Obsidian and see if it appears in the Quick Switcher. If it does, that would suggest that your opening of the file made the cloud service download it, which would make it visible to Obsidian.

Thank you.

It appears that ICloud is syncing properly and all files are local. I did as you suggested (opening a note outside of Obsifian) and that didn’t effect the Quick Switcher. All of my notes appear in the Obsidian sidebar but Quick Switcher is only showing the most recently opened notes.

The same behavior is hppening in the Sandbox.

Any other thoughts?

  1. And if you begin typing the name of a note, does it change and show matches?

  2. If I type nothing into Quick Switcher, I also see recent files. (But I see 10 results.) In the Sandbox, if you browse through 10 notes, you should also see 10 default recent notes. Is that the case, or no?

  3. In your own vault, I assume you’ve opened more notes, and you still only see 3 results? Have you tested with plugins community turned off? (Part of the troubleshooting.)

On desktop, make sure to go to System Settings → Your Apple ID → iCloud → Optimize Mac Storage → OFF. If iCloud had offloaded some of your files, I suppose there is a chance they got removed from the most-recent list for Quick Switcher, even if they are back now. (I don’t know.)

Thank you.

The Quick Switcher is now working properly. I had already confirmed that Optimized Storage was not turned on. Not sure what was up. I’ll post again if the Quick Switcher begins to act up.
