Help! Files being cleared due to connection (ICloud related?)

For a while now my files have been being cleared when I have connection issues. Pressing ctrl+z returns the files to their previous state so I have worked through the inconvenience.

I am also occasionally losing data, probably from sync issues with my phone. I created a file exclusively for phone notes in order to mitigate this issue but it is not ideal. Both of these issues seem to be related.

Connection issues - I work on hotel or coffeeshop wifi often so I often have to go through a login page where internet access is disabled. I’m not sure if this is causing some of the issues. In any case, I’m not exactly sure why obsidian wants to clear my files when it fails to load…I’m guessing it might be ICloud related?

ICloud - I have 40gb free in my ICloud so I don’t believe it is a space issue.

Devices - Macbook and iPhone. Note This issue (files being cleared) is present even when I work exclusively on my Macbook. When I involve the iPhone, I also get lost data.

Plugins - I only have 5 plugins enabled: smart typography, kanban, pinned notes, remember cursor position, automatic table of contents.

Things I have tried

As mentioned above, Ctrl + z returns the blank files to their previous state. This is inconvenient every time I enter Obsidian, as the issue affects several (5+) files at once, and I have to go through each of them to get back my information. It also adds a bunch of 0kb files into my backups which is obviously not optimal.

Disabling plugins. The issue seemed to still be present, but I only tried this once since I find it hard to work without them.

Hello

Do you have your vault set to always be downloaded on all devices?

edit: Guapa be me to myself! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Note content vanishing and then coming back with a cmd + z sounds like iCloud Drive is clearing things out / offloading to the cloud.

Oh thanks, I didn’t know about that “Keep Downloaded” trick. Hopefully this will fix it.

I also realized that my macbook wasn’t emptying the trash automatically and my storage was nearly full as a result. Maybe that had something to do with it as well
