Have obsidian only read file extension .obsidian.md?

What I’m trying to do

  1. Also .obsidian.txt.
  2. I want to add my whole disk as a vault but that is very slow.
  3. Where are many .md files not all are obsidian worthy.

Things I have tried

  1. .obsidian/ ignore patterns ?

Rather unusual request but could be achieved, probably.

First of all, .obsidian.md is not an extension. .obsidian will be treated as part of the filename. Md stands for ‘markdown’ as extension.

Because Obsidian core exclude will not exclude 100% (treat it as "soft exclude), you can try

for “hard exclude”.

And then add in that plugin settings something like:
^(?!.*\.obsidian\.md$).*\.md$

Secondly, txt files are not yet innately handled by Obsidian. You’ll need another third party plugin that allows to read and edit them inside Obsidian and no linking will be possible with these plain txt files. Only md files can be linked.

Notwithstanding, my recommendation would be for you to

  1. rename txt’s to md’s if possible
  2. not rename files to .obsidian in filename but organize a folder where valid Obsidian worthy files with .md extension exist and open that folder as vault.

`^(?!.*\.obsidian\.md$).*\.md$` I added this and it did nothing, also I want to only use .obsidian.md not ignore it

The regex is supposed to discard matches for what you want to keep and by matching all else, it should be performant in exclusion. BUT. Obsidian core exclude is SOFT. The other, 3rd party plugin does HARD exclude, meaning it would completely make the other files not show up (if I remember correctly, because I don’t use it anymore). You need to use that.

BUT(2): What I said in the last paragraph above I maintain as your best course of action.
