Graph View Filtering Question - getting unexpected results

What I’m trying to do

I’m trying to understand the filtering of notes in the graph view and have come across a situation I don’t understand.

My notes in this particular vault are organized in a pyramid hierarchy - a top-level note with multiple sub-notes, sub-sub-notes, etc.

If I filter the graph using the title of one of the 2nd level notes, ALL of that 2nd-level note’s sub-notes (3rd level notes) appear. But in the case of one particular 3rd level note, it’s sub-notes (4th level notes) also appear, but none of the other 3rd level note’s sub-notes appear.

Any explanation or ideas of what might be happening and why would be greatly appreciated.

Things I have tried

I have searched the forums for similar problems using “graph” and “filter” keywords and have not been able to find a similar problem.

I have also found that when using an “AND” in the filter with the 2nd level note and one of the 3rd level note’s titles, only the sub-notes of the 3rd level note that appear without the “AND” appear; the graph goes blank if I try to look at any of the other 3rd level notes.

I’m not sure if this is unique, or even relevant, but none of my notes use any type of forward linking; no notes have a link to a note below it in the hierarchy, links only point “up” the pyramid.
