Use case or problem
As an avid Obsidian user, I frequently come across moments when I want to capture a quick thought, idea, or snippet without needing to switch between multiple apps. Currently, Obsidian lacks an integrated way to add notes from any location on my computer quickly. This gap often forces me to rely on tools like Notion for convenience, where I can open the app and access my notes from any screen. However, Notion still lacks the capability to initiate a structured note or thought entry directly through a system-wide prompt without navigating through different application layers. A quick-access, comprehensive prompt would help streamline the process of capturing and organizing my ideas, wherever I am, enhancing my productivity by reducing context-switching and workflow disruption.
Proposed solution
Introducing a system-wide, customizable prompt for Obsidian that can be accessed from any location on a computer. This feature would function similarly to tools like Lazy.so, but tailored specifically for Obsidian, allowing users to create or append notes instantly, from any application or workspace.
Also good reference might be Notion and Routine app for this feature.
Suggested functionalities include:
A global keyboard shortcut that opens a quick-entry prompt, allowing users to immediately capture ideas, notes, or even create a new document within Obsidian, no matter which application they’re currently using.
Options to define metadata and categorization within the prompt, enabling users to organize entries in real-time by adding tags, links, or specifying folders.
Workflow shortcuts that let users search or open existing notes directly from the prompt, reducing the need to fully open the Obsidian app.
Voice command or dictation support for hands-free note-taking, catering to quick thoughts that need instant capture.
Also that tool would help with finding specific note and edit them in prompt or open them in obsidian
Current workaround
At present, users must manually switch to Obsidian to enter notes or, alternatively, use others apps like Notion with global shortcuts with prompt. Often requiring extra steps to transfer notes later on.
