All the tools and methods change so much… I’m wondering what’s people’s favorite way to quickly get things in from outside Obsidian, preferably Mac/ios? I know of and have used:
- Alfred Alfred Tools.
- Funnel
- Actions for Obsidian
- Drafts - don’t like the multi-step process
- Ios / Mac Shortcuts. Thinking this might be the way?
- Raycast - not a fan of privacy policy
- Markdownload
Basically, just want to ctrl-space and write to Obsidian, or highlight text from browser and send either to the daily note (the bottom). Many of these are overkill and they’ll never be used by family who I’m trying to help with this. What’s the simplest way?

I personally used an iOS shortcut to capture. I didn’t use Actions for Obsidian because the cost didn’t reflect the value for me. Instead, I have my vault synced to my iPhone and I made a shortcut to get verbal input, create a new file, and move it to my mobile inbox in the synced vault. Two separate inboxes for desktop and mobile use are necessary because syncing isn’t always reliable for me and I may overwrite another file somehow.
The dream was to use this on my Apple Watch, but unfortunately you cannot create new files from the Apple Watch when running a shortcut. So, I still have to have my phone if I want to capture something. I’ve forgotten all about it, really, and now I just use Remember the Milk to capture quick things since it’s easier to pull it up and add something. I review my Remember the Milk inbox every day for things that might go into my vault.
I can share my shortcut, but you may do better to look for guides because I don’t know how to explain what I made since it’s been a while.

This is even harder if you have a mixed ecosystem of devices
I think you’re right here. I just want to help get things quickly to a daily note in multiple ways by text or voice transcription. I forgot to mention I also use Readwise, but some things need to go quickly to daily notes. I think shortcuts are the way to do this without waiting for Obsidian to open, or multi-step processes.
I was able to create a shortcut on my watch face to create a new TaskNotes file as described here: iOS Shortcut to create a TaskNotes Task File - #5 by obsidianuser8 (Only with the help of a third party app though)
