I work at Char (open source AI meeting notes app) so flagging that upfront, but we’re Obsidian users ourselves and this workflow came out of our own frustration so sharing in case it’s useful.
What Char does: while you take notes during a meeting, it transcribes system audio in the background. When the meeting ends, it combines your notes with the transcript into a summary saved as a plain .md file. You point the output folder at your Obsidian vault and it shows up like any other note.
-
Output is clean markdown, no proprietary formatting
-
File names include the date so they sort cleanly in the file explorer
-
Works offline if you run local models via Ollama
Char is GPL-3.0 and free for individuals. macOS today, Windows in progress. Happy to answer questions about the vault setup. And genuinely curious how others here are handling meeting notes currently.
