Format Ghost Note

Hello everyone, I have already searched the forum and cannot seem to find anything relating to this.

I have a basic template for all new notes I create, which follow a basic format of properties and a data view linking back to all notes which mentions said note.

Now when I am writing a note and link a note which I have not created yet—but will eventually need to—the creation of the new note does not follow the format I have set as the default.

If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it as I am still new to this app and community. thank you

To start: how are you applying that template to new notes now? The core Templates? The community Templater? Knowing that will help folks point you in the right direction.

I reckon you’ll need to use Templater’s “trigger Templater on new file creation” and “folder templates” for this.

Sorry. I am using the Templater plug in and I do have trigger enabled and everything. I have the basic format saved in its folder.

I see two options you could try (there may be more).

Leave Obsidian’s Default location for new notes unchanged:

and set a Templater “folder template” to watch the vault root ( / ) for new notes:

OR

Create a folder were all your new notes go ( _new notes for example ) and set that in Obsidian’s settings:

and have Templater watch that folder:

I personally would go with the second option, but it’s up to you. They both seem to work clicking on [[links to notes not yet created]]. Give them both a try.
