Footnotes in slides: On the same page, smaller, and clickable?

Use case or problem

Rarely (so this is not high priority), I use footnotes in slides:

# Slide 1

Some text and a footnote.[^1]

[^1]: This is the footnote text.

# Slide 2

Even more text.

These are shown in normal text size at the end of the document, separated by a large vertical space, and not clickable.

Proposed solution

It would be nice if they

  • could be shown on the same slide they appear on,
  • be in smaller size,
  • maybe have less vertical “separation space”,
  • and be clickable (especially if it’s not possible to move them away from the end of the document), so the sildes would move there and back.

Current workaround (optional)

Use an extra --- at the end of the document and shorten footnote text so it fits on approx. half the slide height (due to the large vertical space).
