Flashcards/spaced repetition how to setup after install?

What I’m trying to do

Hello, coming from Logseq Flashcards system, I have enabled Obsidian plugin Spaced Repetition, however need to start.
I was listing French and Japanese words on a page, with pages being categories like health, body, house, job etc.

Things I have tried

I searched Internet and Obsidian forum for setup, but it’s mostly instal and what spaced repetition is.
Can’t find 1 basic example…I imagine setup a page, tag something and use a question and answer format with tabs?

I watched a few videos but they setup on desktop.

I’m on iPhone 12 iOS 18.5, plugin Spaced Repetition Version: 1.13.3 By Stephen Mwangi.
I recognise that name, I found the website with how and what, but couldn’t find a phone example of some cards.

Videos show a Flashcards icon to select, then Spaced Repetition happens.
The phone app Obsidian Current Version: 1.9.12 (237) shows no Flashcards icon on the left or right side bars.

Command Palette → type: review all → select Spaced Repetition: Review flashcards from all notes → new window opens:
Decks
Due Cards: 0 New Cards: 0 Total Cards: 0

I cannot exit this page and have to close the Obsidian app.

Flashcards are defined within standard Obsidian markdown files.

A markdown file containing flashcards must identify the deck (or decks) into which the flashcards are placed.

Decks:

Using Obsidian Tags

  1. Specify flashcard tags in settings (#flashcards is the default).
  2. Tag any notes that you’d like to put flashcards using said tags.

 

How cards are defined:

In summary you need to:

  1. define your decks (only #flashcards is defined by default i.e. you will have a deck named “flashcards”)
  2. define correct separator for single or multiline cards
  3. use tags from (1) and separator from (2) in your notes that include card definitions

Desktop Obsidian App Current version: v1.9.12 (Installer version: v1.4.16) shows a Flashcard icon on the left column.
Selecting the Flashcard icon opens:
Decks
Due Cards: 0 New Cards: 0 Total Cards: 0

I will test the replies on the phone shortly.

I strongly suggest you download and reinstall Obsidian. This installer is ancient and might be missing security updates and possibly causing you some issues.

(It might not be related to this issue.)

Thanks, but the Raspberry Pi 5 desktop OS freezes the latest Obsidian, due to some errors with Electron. I had to roll back to said version.

Can you disable the Electron plugin? It doesn’t seem to do much anyways.

When I was troubleshooting, I think Electron was needed, so disabling was not a solution.
I’ll look at Electron later on, as I need time for the Obsidian setup troubleshooting now.
