What I’m trying to do
I want to have two side by side panes at all times, a left pane and a right pane each taking half the screen. I want a way to be able to click (or control-enter) a link to open a note in the same pane or in the other pane (or equally good solution: to open a note in the left pane or the right pane). I want a keyboard shortcut to jump to the left or right pane.
I often am moving text between two notes, or comparing two notes, or viewing two related notes.
I never want tabs, ever. Obsidian is super-powered at searching for notes and opening them quickly so I don’t even understand why we have tabs. They just clutter up the interface and force me to do housekeeping to close them all. I often have a dozen of the same note open in different tabs, and they are never useful to me.
I don’t want sliding panes slowly eating up my screen real-estate either. Same problem as tabs, just moved to the side instead of the tab.
Things I have tried
I’ve tried pinning tabs, I’ve tried several different pane management plugins. Nothing does what I want, which seems to me like the default best way to work.
Can anybody help me configure Obsidian this way?
