Finding Files in Linux File Systems

What I’m trying to do

Hi all! I messed up BIG TIME. I forgot to take backups of obsidian, and I don’t have sync - this will be something I’ll do once I’ve fixed my computer - so I need help accessing my obsidian files…because my stupid Linux mint computer has gone into kernel panic mode!! I’m trying to restore it, but am failing so far. I’ve searched obsidian as to where they store the files on a computer’s system, and did find it! However, I didn’t find my files - only the obsidian software which I cannot load. Is there any way I can access my files so I can copy them? I’m currently only able to access the obsidian stuff via a software called Dr Parted. Is it possible or am I just going to have to have a big cry and start again from scratch??

Thank you

Mint

Things I have tried

  1. I’ve searched a lot on the forum and I’ve been through obsidian’s help docs (obsidian.md/help/data-storage)

An Obsidian “vault” is just a regular folder with a .obsidian settings folder and other folders/files in it. When creating a new vault, you choose the location. There’s no default location.

If you can search the file system in some way, I’d look for the .obsidian folder and a collection of .md files. The folder those are in is your vault.
