Files Seemingly vanished Out of Thin Air (Desperately Need Help)

What I’m trying to do

I deleted obsidian and reinstalled it but once reinstalled all my files were gone. (I only had 5.) These 5 files were very important and needed for a current uni project I am working on. The files were saved locally on my Mac but now they are just gone. I did not delete the files, at least I don’t remember doing so, all I did was delete obsidian.

Things I have tried

I have checked the recycle bin, documents, downloads, hidden folders and found nothing. I even installed the program “Disk Drill” that recovers deleted files and to my surprise I could not locate them there either.

I am completely lost on what to do. I don’t even know how they vanished but I now also have no idea how to get them back.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You can try the

core plugin, but I would investigate the reason as to why the files disappeared in the first place.

Where is your vault located? Is it in iCloud Drive/Obsidian/{VAULT-NAME}? If so, you need to make sure that vault folder is always downloaded locally (macOS Sequoia+) or turn OFF Optimize Mac Storage in iCloud Drive’s settings.

thank you I’ll go ahead and try File recovery.

My vault was stored locally as a folder. Wasn’t stored in my iCloud

Appreciate the help.

hey, so I tried the File recovery method but it did not work. I think it’s because my original vault is gone. I forgot to explain that it’s not just the 5 notes, the whole vault and its folder on my computer are gone. I think that’s why the file recovery method didn’t;t work.
