Files deleted after setting up new phone

I found a mention of a similar issue here, but that was four years ago.

I just setup my new phone (Samsung S25 Ultra) and when I opened Obsidian none of my files were there. The images were still there, but no text files. Sync said it was syncing.

I opened Obsidian on my laptop and noticed all files were now missing. Fortunately, Sync has restore capabilities and I was able to restore all the files that showed as recently deleted.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Set up new phone (Samsung S25 Ultra).
  2. Transfer all files and settings from Samsung S23 Ultra (via phone setup)
  3. Open Obsidian

Are you saying you mixed both Obsidian Sync and OneDrive? Because if so, that is very likely the cause of the problem.

Do not mix multiple syncing tools. Sync limitations - Obsidian Help

Can I use a third-party sync with Obsidian Sync?

We do not recommend using a third-party sync service alongside Obsidian Sync. Using the same third-party service and Obsidian Sync on multiple devices can lead to conflicts, resulting in duplicate or corrupted files.

I’m going to move this to help for now, as this doesn’t sound like a bug. Very glad you were able to restore your files. Please make sure you fix this issue of having two sync tools.

And make sure you keep good backups too. Sync tools are not meant as full backups!
