Feedback on using Obsidian for research

I’m currently doing CS/ML research as an undergrad in college and using Obsidian to keep track of experiments and thoughts. I’m also using Zotero with the built-in notes feature for reading papers, but I haven’t found it necessary to connect the workflow into Obsidian yet.

I find my current system kind of cluttered. Would anyone be willing to give feedback on how I can improve my process and make my note taking more organized (both basic formatting and any additional Obsidian features I should be using)? I’ve included some samples of my vault. Thank you!

Hi there! I’d suggest adding a temporal layer to your vault, so your notes carry a clearer sense of time and you can track progress, iterations, and how your thinking changes.

This can be especially useful when you need a timeline to clarify research trends, experiment history, or your own progress through a project. I haven’t seen many plugins that fully fit research workflows like this, but I think you could build a small custom setup for your vault, tailored to your CS/ML research process.
