Feature request - Settings option to disable Unlinked Mentions

Use case or problem

When I open up the Backlinks right-hand side panel on a PDF, not all of the associated Backlinks are shown. There seems to be a lot of empty space between some of the entries in the Linked Mentions. When I scroll, I see that the other Linked Mention entries are pushed down, but the scrolling is jumpy and not consistent and it’s hard to reach these lower entries. For the same reason, when I switch Sort Views (File Name, Modified time, Created time), different Linked Mentions entries are shown.

My hypothesis is that the number of Unlinked Mentions are causing this odd scrolling and spacing behavior. It’s hard to validate, but from my experimentation on the Sandbox app, a large number of Linked and Unlinked Mentions does start to cause this bug to appear.

I have documented the problem as a PDF++ issue as well (pictures included). It is Issue 302.

Here are my specific usage patterns:

  1. I have a large vault of ~4,000 files
  2. I primarily use the Backlinks panel in conjunction with PDFs (everything is linked to those PDFs)
  3. I use PDF++ annotation
  4. I don’t have a need for Unlinked Mentions
  5. I want to be able to see all of my Linked Mentions per PDF page

Proposed solution

My proposed solution is to give the user a Settings option to disable Unlinked Mentions. That is my current hypothesis of why this bug is occurring.
