Steps to reproduce
Install aurora linux or bazzite, (this issue exists on both platforms).
Download the official obsidian appimage.
Star it and make a new vault.
Try to export a file to pdf.
Nothing happens.
Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? [Y/N]
Yes.
I’ve tried this in the sandbox vault. I’ve tried this with a completely blank linux user. I’ve tried this in a different ublue os on a different computer.
Expected result
A couple of weeks ago this action would close the export dialogue and make a pdf of the given note.
Actual result
When clicking on the file picker “Save” button, the file picker disappears and I am met by the export box again with nothing happening.

Community plugins: for bugs, please first try updating all your plugins to latest. If still not fixed, please try to make the issue happen in the Sandbox Vault or disable community plugins.
Additional information
Here is a video of the issue. Please forgive the choppy nature of it.

I open the appimage, let the note render, and click export to pdf. I then slick save when the file picker popps up. The file picker closes, and I wait a moment before trying again.
I’ve already tried to wait for 30 minutes in case something was loading.
I’ve tried launching it from the terminal to see if any errors were thrown, but no logs of any kind were displayed. I couldn’t even see if obsidian had registered that I had clicked the confirmation button.
Also, a note of the reporting template. In the additional info section you tell me to drop a link to any relevant videos, however, the forum software blocks posts with links in them.
Reporting the same problem on Manjaro KDE, I tried turning off plugins, with both the official repo and the flatpak version. Current version is 1.8.9-2
We didn’t change anything, however there were some changes upstream (electron) on how the OS native file picker are used. This is likely a problem of electron or kde.
Kubuntu 25.04, Obsidian AppImage 1.8.10 - Export to PDF stopped working yesterday (09/05).
The following appears in the journal when I use the ‘save’ button on the OS modal to save the PDF export:
I am still trying to learn what this message means exactly and identify what system packages were updated before I discovered the issue.
In the meantime would those who experience the export issue on KDE mind to open the KSystemLog app (or otherwise just check the logs) and check if they get the same log entry during export?
@rpnid - you just made my day - thanks a mil for your feedback.
I was spending the morning deep in the woods, wading through logs, downgrading packages and messing with AppArmor when I should have tried the “obvious UI tests” first.
can you elaborate what do you mean by “selecting a location from the left”? I am getting the same error on KDE Neon. I tried looking for setting a default location for export in settings but could not find anything.
This applies to the apparently problematic “Save to…” file dialog. That one got a list of standard locations outside the tree list window (here: to the left), and can be made to work by FIRST selecting from these.
I agree, the “Save to..” dialog is the thing that crashes. As soon as I select the Export options > “Save to” dialog opens and it crashes. I don’t get any time or options to select anything!
If only there was a way to set a default save location for all exports. I did this for pandocs exporter, now “export as pdf (via latex)” works but it has huge margins.
Open a page in the sandbox vault, hit Ctrl+P, enter export pdf, select export pdf, hit Enter.
Then the explorer/Dolphin windows opens to select a path where to store the PDF. Wait for a few seconds, then the explorer window crashes.
Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? [Y/N]
Yes. Sandbox vault, Snap package.
Expected result
Normal PDF export as it worked before
Actual result
No PDF export possible, even when hitting enter immediately to export to the already selected folder.
