Exclude certain folders from the vault

Use case or problem

I wrapped my obsidian vault over my whole file structure. It is a test to see if this improves workflows by being able to “comment” literally anything anywhere in a meaningful way.

My problem: I am a hobby programmer. There are some node projects within my vault now. Those include node_modules folders. These typically containt thousands and thousands of files and subdirectories.

Obsidian obviously can’t handle such a number of files—and quite honestly: why should it?

Proposed solution

There is already a setting to remove certain folders or files from certain parts of obsidian.
It would be great if this could be extended to exclude those folders altogether.

(Moving those programming directories outside of the vault isn’t really a solution, because
a) it destroys my Johnny Decimal system
b) I lose the ability to use obsidian/markdown within those projects)
