Exceedingly Slow Search and Opening New File

What I’m trying to do

After some recent updates, search is taking forever and it never seems to complete, judging by the ongoing purple progress bar under the search box

Creating a new file with cmd+N or via the menu takes literally a minute or more.

Opening an existing file opens only the title without the contents of the file, and the editor says “No file” at the top

Things I have tried

My files sit in OneDrive, so I have tried syncing, unlinking and linking my account, keeping files on disk, and starting a new vault. But nothing has worked so far.

Obsidian is basically unusable.

Version

Version 1.7.7 (Installer 1.4.14)
macOS Sequoia 15.1 (24B83)

I found this in the Console. Not sure what it means.

I would try moving or making a copy of the vault somewhere outside of the main OneDrive folder (or a folder watched by OneDrive) and using it for a bit.

/Users/YOU/VAULT-NAME/ is clear of OneDrive, iCloud Drive, etc., and would be fine.

My vault in OneDrive is behaving at the moment, but sometime last year after a macOS or OneDrive update (I don’t know which), it wasn’t. Deleting notes would freeze the Obsidian UI, switching tabs would lag, creating new notes seemed to take forever and so on.

Moving the vault out of OneDrive immediately cleared up all of the problems. My other vaults not stored in OneDrive were fine. I eventually moved that one vault back into OneDrive and it’s been fine since (always keep downloaded is set for that folder).

Not saying any of this will solve your issue, but it’s something to investigate.

Thank you. I’ll give it a go.
