Steps to reproduce
While editing a note, press Win+. (windows key + period key), either click on an emoji or start typing anything.
Expected result
Either an emoji appears at the cursor, or an underlined emoji search string is displayed progressively and then replaced by the emoji when Enter is pressed (this behaviour may be observed in most Windows programs as well as in this forum’s textarea 
).
Actual result
Nothing is displayed at the cursor until the emoji keyboard is closed by mouse or by clicking Escape. After that, the emojis appear.
