Emoji are not rendered in AppImage version on Fedora 39 Kinoite

Steps to reproduce

  1. Download AppImage for Linux
  2. Launch Obsidian
  3. Emojis are not rendered neither in text body not in folder/file names. Or better say they are rendered as black lines on top of each other.

Did you follow the troubleshooting guide?

Yes, I did.

Sandbox vault has the same issue.

The Flatpak version does show up emojis but it does not render any of my attachments if they are placed in a custom directory instead of root directory of the vault. I’d rather live without emojis than attachments

I also created a separate toolbox on Fedora Kinoite and launched AppImage from their. The issue was still present.

I also tried changing fonts in Obsidian. Emojis disappear if I choose Noto Sans font.

Emojis in other apps are colorful after I applied this workaround. Before they were monochrome.

Expected result

Emojis are rendered.

Actual result

Emojis are not rendered.

I’m running Fedora 39 Kinoite with KDE Plasma 6 with Wayland

Everything works fine on my other machine on Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon.

sounds like you have a font problem.

Seems like. But then what font should I install for them to show up?
