Don't create hidden .obsidian folder

Is it possible to use obsidian in such a way that it does not create the hidden obsidian folder?
Sometimes I just want to edit a single markdown file and I have no interests in all the nice features that obsidian brings. I just want to use it for the WYSIWYG ability.
But because of the hidden folder it creates I keep falling back to using VSCode.

Obsidian is created around the concept of the vault, and thusly needs/wants that hidden folder for configuration stuff.

You want it as a standalone editor, as discussed in the feature request below.
