Important Note
Popularity of a Feature Request is one of the factors we consider when we decide which new features to implement. Therefore, we strongly recommend you to search the forum with possible keywords.
If your request is very similar to an existing one, like it () and make a meaningful comment, rather than creating a new thread. It also keeps the forum sane! If you find duplicate threads, feel free to send the moderators a message.

Use case or problem
Currently on Debian based systems, the Obsidian DEB releases are downloaded manually, then installed manually via the dpkg package manager (with “dpkg -i”). Unless I’m mistaken, there is no way to download and install all-in-one via an apt respository using “apt-get install” etc. By the same, there’s no way to “apt-get update” and receive updated Obsidian DEB installation that way.
Proposed solution
GitHub can be made to host an apt repository. If you structure the DEB releases in ways that apt commands expect, then it will be possible for someone to just add the Obsidian apt respository to their /etc/apt/sources.list (or similar) and then just “apt-get update && apt-get install obsidian” (or similar).
