i hope someone can help me. i would like to use obsidian as a writing app and therefore need many dialogs.
now i have installed the plugin “Smart Typography” for the dialogs, which is good so far, unfortunately it has an annoying bug, which i have already posted to the manufacturer.
maybe someone has a solution?
I have the problem that when I want to write the first line of a dialog in a note, the quotation marks are displayed incorrectly. Only in the first line!
I use Guillemets >>DIALOG<<
if i use the first line and put the quotation mark, i get <<, which is strange, it should be >>…
so I can’t put clean quotation marks …
is strange, in the second line I get everything right
Maybe avoid the first line, but I wouldn’t want such inconsistencies. Guillemets may be easy to type, if you know the exact key combination.
So, I’d check your on-screen keyboard to see what modifier keys (shift, alt, Ctrl, etc) you need to press to get Guillemets. I don’t know your OS, but your on-screen keyboard is usually to find under your computers settings, then the keyboard pane.
Otherwise, you can add Guillemets with a text expander app.
Maybe I’m just ignorant, but aren’t they supposed to be like «and then»? Meaning that when you start with the » you are actually starting with the ending pair/character? And the reason it gets it right from there on, is that it’s detected that you have an opening, and it keeps on going from that ignore the first closing variant?
Agreed, I also try to keep the number of plugins or aid apps low.
on Win, autokey is called autohotkey, a very useful app - you won’t regret using this piece of software: https://www.autohotkey.com/
With my theme you can create 3 kinds of dialogs, the German quotes, the British quotes and the French Guillemets (« »), but not the Guillemets in use in Germany (» «)
maybe your best choice is to wait for a fix of Smart Typography, if you reported already this bug
