Data privacy with Smart Connections?

First, search the help docs and this forum. Maybe your question has been answered! The debugging steps can help, too. Still stuck? Delete this line and proceed.

What I’m trying to do

Things I have tried

I’m not looking for help, I am looking for people’s experiences.

I came upon Smart Connections and the author seems to describe an interest in data privacy. I have sensitive data in Obsidian. I am careful to ensure that I only send Obsidian data in privacy-safe ways.

Smart Connections seems to be very black-box to me. That is, I can’t see what it is doing. I shut down my network and enabled Smart Connections. If it is all local, then it should be able to function without a network. It seems to do something but I can’t tell what. After that, I disabled the plugin.

Is there anyone on the forum with similar interests who has successfully used Smart Connections in this way? Have you been able to determine that it is genuinely local-only in processing?

Drew

Is it Smart Connections plugin or the paid for app?
The plugin’s first? release is checked by the Obsidian team for privacy and other standards.
The app is out of Obsidian’s radar.

I don’t use this plugin BTW. There are others, like Copilot, or the non-Obsidian Msty, which can accept an Obsidian vault.

It is the community plugin.

Well, apart from what I said above, up to you.
And as for what online LLM models may or may not take, there’s Google Search.

Or someone using the plugin may get online to share their experiences.

Ever since a certain family started reading private mails on the postal carriages in Europe operated by them…ahemmm…
