Copy with formatting fails in Windows

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open an EPUB file with rich text in Calibre E-Book viewer in Microsoft Windows.
  2. Copy some rich text.
  3. Paste in Microsoft Word
  4. Paste in Obsidian
  5. Copy the text from Microsoft Word
  6. Paste in Obsidian

Expected result

All pastes to keep formatting, unless I choose “paste as plain text” from Obsidian context menu. (Which I don’t choose)

Actual result

  • Paste in Microsoft Word is fine/formatted. (Step 3)
  • Paste in Obsidian is plain text. (Step 4)
  • Paste in Obsidian (source: MS Word) is fine/formatted. (Step 6)

  • Operating system: Microsoft Windows

Additional information

  • The same procedure is fine in Kubuntu Linux with same version of Calibre and Obsidian.
  • I personally (non-technically) suspect that it’s related to the difference of how Calibre vs. MS Word provide rich text to clipboard.

You are correct in this. We only handle formatted text if it is placed in the clipboard in HTML format.

Isn’t there any difference in this regard between Windows and Linux versions of Obsidian?

And I’d appreciate if you tell me (or provide a reference to read) that “what are the other formats for clipboard content?”
