If I want to copy a picture from Obsidian to other notebook software, the pictrure should be opened in default app first and be copied then.
I often copy pictures from Obsidian to Anki. This feature will help me a lot.
Not sure I understand your flow.
Why don’t you just “Open in default app” (with the keyboard shortcut) and then do your copy?
