Citations plugin link to zotero file not working

I am trying to link to zotero file from the citations plugin. In the literature note template I input this

[{{citekey}}]({{zoteroSelectURI}})

but it doesn’t work when I create the note.

Things I have tried

I’ve tried the Citation: Insert Markdown Citation from the command palette but that shows the same thing. In read mode it says: Metadata (Invalid YAML)

What I’m trying to do

Have a link to the zotero file in the literature note!
