Choose default location of external files

Org-mode has a great feature I’d like to see in Obsidian, where the user can decide where attachments are stored.

A simple variable in the configuration (per vault, is my suggestions) would open up a great deal of flexibility in regards to backup, use with external services and such.

It would be useful if Obsidian could then:

  • Optionally automatically expand links with this path, i.e. image.jpg gets expanded to ~/chosenpath/image.jpg (in order to facilitate changing the location)
  • Save file there automatically when using drag and drop

Thoughts?

Ok, so it turns out custom attachment folders are already implemented and most of what I asked for is already there.

At this pace of development, it’s hard to keep up with all the features. Great job, guys!

I do this for setting default media folder:
Settings > Files & Links > Default location for new attachments >
In the folder specified below > Attachment folder path >
(enter folder path e.g.) Archive/Attachment.
