Problems Encountered
I just started using Obsidian and already have some notes. I want to intuitively display my notes using the core plugin’s Whiteboard feature. However, I found that dragging notes and zooming with the scroll wheel is very laggy, and the whiteboard has significant delay. Even inserting just a few documents makes it laggy. I’m using version 1.9.14 on a Tianxuan 3 laptop with a 3060 graphics card.
Expected Outcome
I have watched videos on Bilibili where others manage their notes with the whiteboard. Their whiteboards are smooth with no lag when dragging or zooming. For this kind of text rendering task, my computer should also be able to handle it.
Attempted Solutions
I tried several approaches:
- After researching online, I disabled all third-party plugins and even most of the core plugins, but it didn’t improve.
- Enabled the high-performance graphics card setting on my computer to allow Obsidian to use it, but no improvement.imageimage589×679 29.8 KB
- Created a new vault and imported only some files from the original vault to use the whiteboard feature, but still no improvement.
- Used Obsidian’s built-in sandbox vault with only its notes for the whiteboard feature. All notes in it are in Chinese. After inserting a few notes, it was very smooth with no lag. Then I realized that the issue might be related to Chinese.
- Based on method 4, I added a few of my own Chinese notes, and as soon as I inserted them, dragging and zooming became laggy immediately. Even creating random Chinese notes in the sandbox made it laggy. Deleting the Chinese notes restored smooth performance.
- Returning to my own vault, inserting a few English notes was very smooth. But once I added a Chinese note, the lag started again. The more Chinese notes there are, the more laggy it becomes.
Current Situation
I still don’t have a concrete solution, and I have found that Chinese is one of the causes. I want to ask everyone if they have experienced this, if you can reproduce my situation, and if there are any solutions. I also plan to report this to the official team.
