Cheating: Checked and empty checkboxes in tables

I like to see empty checkboxes and checked ones in tables.

Here is my cheat, or workaround. It uses:

• Espanso to do text replacement https://espanso.org/
• a little more typing

I installed Espanso (on Mac) and set up these text-replacement rules:

When I type [–] and [xx] , Espanso replaces them immediately with
☐ . I believe these are Unicode characters.

I don’t mind a) installing Espanso and b) typing a few extra characters to get reasonable-looking checkboxes. They don’t work with Dataview, etc. but I don’t need them to.

Support checkboxes in tables

Hey - i’d like to use checkboxes in tables (- or - ) but no matter how much I try with markdown it doesn’t seem to work. A quick Google search tells me this has been a recurring issue for years: it’s not possible to use markdown syntax in tables, so the best alternative is to use HTML. I’ve managed to workaround using <input type="checkbox"> and <input type·"checkbox" unchecked>, but it feels super clunky and cumbersome, especially for long lists.
