Change Remote Vault Sync Password

What I’m trying to do

Change my remote vault sync password.

Things I have tried

I’ve looked at my Obsidian.md account settings as well as the “sync plugin” settings. I’ve searched this forum and read the official docs. I can’t find any direct answer as to how to do it or if it’s even possible.

I’m beginning to think that it’s not possible and that I’ll have to create a new remote vault, connect to it and sync my local one to it then delete my old remote vault.

Can someone confirm if it’s possible to change the password or if I’ll have to follow my multi-step workaround?

Thanks!

We recommend end-to-end encryption for all users as it is the most private and secure option.

However, be aware that if you forget or lose your encryption password, your data remains encrypted and unusable forever. We’re not able to recover your password, or any encrypted data for you.

I believe this is the case. The only options in the remote vault management screen are to delete, rename, or share.

If you haven’t yet upgraded your remote vault to the latest encryption, it looks like that process might let you choose a new password. The effect is much the same as deleting and recreating, but may be slightly less work. Upgrade Sync encryption - Obsidian Help
